armsafetybuttonlogo.jpg

Today we sit down with Johnny Larkins, innovator of the new smart phone app, Arm Safety Button. Arm Safety Button is a personal security system for Android phones that deters crime. It generates an incident report that has the victims name on file, timestamps the incident, notes the GPS location and automatically photographs pictures of the assailant. It operates much like a panic button. One tap, an incident report is recorded. Two taps, that information is automatically sent to emergency responders.

Johnny tells us his heartfelt journey to making this app, his mission to keep everybody safe, his relationship with social service organizations that specialize in victimization and much more.

PHASA-Logo.jpg

Josh Livingroom, Mike McClean and Leslie Castle and myself, Melanie Flores, advocates from the Public Health Alliance for Syringe Access (PHASA), discuss injection drug use in Nevada. The Public Health Alliance for Syringe Access seeks to reduce injection-related transmission of HIV, viral hepatitis and other blood borne diseases in the state of Nevada through policy reform that would allow for the legal sale, distribution, possession and safe disposal of sterile syringes.

You don't want to miss this show, Josh and Mike open up very candidly about their experiences with injection drug use, what roles harm reduction and needle exchange programs have played in their lives and how they have found their way to give back and fight for policy efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis transmission and better health care resources for injection drug users. Plus Leslie touches on the public safety aspect of needle exchanges and how prescription drugs are the new gateway to  heroin and needle use.
